Preparation
Allow the hair to grow – but not too long!
For the best (and most painless) results, your hair should be roughly ½ cm long before waxing so that the wax can grip and remove it easily. For most people, this is roughly 2-3 weeks’ growth. If the hair is too short, the wax will have a tough time sticking to the hair, and if it’s too long it could make the treatment a little uncomfortable.

Exfoliate your skin
Gently exfoliate your skin with a body scrub and mitt 48 hours before your appointment. This will help to remove any dead skin cells that are clogging your pores. Exfoliation also helps to loosen any trapped hairs that could otherwise remain stubbornly attached during your treatment.
It is best to do this a couple of days before so that you don’t irritate the skin right before your wax.

Freshly washed skin is best
Before the wax is applied, make sure you have clean, freshly washed skin. Oily skin can prevent the wax from adhering, leaving behind some stray hairs. Also, by removing all traces of make-up and sweat from your skin, there is less chance of irritation after the treatment. Remember to dry your skin thoroughly with a clean towel, as the wax won’t stick to damp skin. We recommend washing you waxing area around an hour or so before the wax so that it will be completely dry for the treatment.

Avoid the Sun!
We cannot wax skin that has been burnt so avoid the sun.
  • On the day of treatment, do not swim or soak in a bath.
  • Do not sunbathe or use a sun-bed.
  • Do not use oils or moisturisers on the areas to be treated.
  • Do not exercise vigorously.
  • Clean or disposable underwear should be worn for bikini waxing.
  • Previously bleached hair tends, when waxed tend to break off at skin level.
Aftercare
Please follow the guidelines below to ensure your skin is cared for properly over the next few days. Please note: some slight soreness, small bumps and redness are common and perfectly normal temporary reactions, particularly if this is your first wax. These symptoms should subside over the next 24-48 hours but can be helped by applying Aloe Vera gel to the skin for a cool, soothing effect. Aloe Vera will help to rehydrate the skin and reduce the appearance of waxing bumps. Another great soother is Tea Tree Oil which also has antibacterial properties to ensure your skin remains free from infection (don’t use it neat though – instead choose a moisturiser that contains tea tree oil).
Keep the waxed area clean and avoid heat and friction during the next 24-48 hours.
This means: -
  • No hot baths or showers (cool to lukewarm water only).
  • No saunas, hot tubs or steam treatments.
  • No tanning (sunbathing, sunbeds or fake tans).
  • No sport, gym work or other exercise.
  • Avoid scratching or touching the treated area with unwashed hands.
  • Wear clean, loose-fitting clothes.
  • Avoid swimming in chlorinated pools.
  • Do not apply deodorants, body sprays, powders, lotions or other products to the area, other than those recommended by your therapist.
To soothe and protect the skin, apply an antiseptic cream to the waxed area regularly for 3 days following your treatment. Always wash your hands before applying any product.
To prevent ingrown hairs: wait around 3 days for the skin to settle, then gently scrub the skin 2-3 times a week in the bath or shower using a loofah or exfoliating mitt.
Also moisturise the area every day, which will keep the skin supple and help prevent ingrown hairs.

You may notice a small amount of regrowth after a week or so. It can take up to 4 treatments for your hair to get on a growth cycle that gives best results. Hair needs to be at least ½ cm long before it can be successfully removed by waxing; please do not shave between your appointments. To maintain your smooth appearance, we recommend regular waxing every 4-6 weeks.
